Frequently Asked Questions

Think of it this way: when you need medical advice, you seek out a specialist in that area. It’s the same for financial and insurance advice. An appropriately accredited adviser should be up-to-date with industry news, products and best practice, and have a strong network of professional contacts to support their work for you.

You’re probably looking for three key attributes:

  • Knowledge
How well does the adviser understand the market and products?
  • Experience
Can they work with insurance companies, negotiate on your behalf, and navigate a claim process?
  • Reputation
There’s nothing more powerful than a personal endorsement. Do they have any client testimonials? Who would your friends or colleagues recommend?

Whomever you select, you need to have confidence that the adviser will be there when you need them, and provide a level of personal service not available via a bank or online.

This is highly subjective and depends on a client’s personal circumstances and needs. For example, life cover is designed to protect your family and/or business in the case of your untimely death. Funeral costs, short-term debts, credit cards, counselling services, mortgage repayments, school fees – these are just some of the expenses which may need to be taken into consideration.

Most people don’t even think of their most valuable asset: themselves! You are your most valuable asset. You work every day. You earn the money to support your family’s lifestyle. You are an income-earning machine, and insuring that income against the potential risk of losing it through injury or illness could be an extremely wise move.

This is when your adviser will really show their mettle.

We all hope that we never have to make a claim. But that’s what insurance is for: so that, if the unexpected happens, any potential financial burden will be taken care of. Transferring the risk to an insurance company may be a sensible strategy, giving you peace of mind and keeping your assets safe.

Financial Lifestyle aims to make any claim process as efficient and stress-free as possible. We act as advocates for our clients, helping to gather relevant information, liaising on their behalf, and confirming timeframes to keep the process on track.

Any financial adviser must give you a copy of their disclosure statement. In accordance with the Financial Advisers Act 2008, this document should tell you key information, including:

  • The services offered by the adviser
  • How the business operates
  • The adviser’s qualifications
  • Recommended insurance products
  • The insurance companies with which the adviser can place your business
  • How the adviser is paid (e.g., through commission from a lender)

Copies of Financial Lifestyle’s advisers’ disclosure statements are available on request, free of charge.
